  • Rugby Tournament - Ashford Schools Winners!

Wed 31 May 2017 Mr Lemon

Challock A team win Ashford Schools' Tag Rugby tournament; B team finish an excellent 11th!

On 25th May, Challock entered two teams into the Ashford Schools’ Tag Rugby tournament, held at the Towers School.

Our A team started off on pitch 5 with a 9-3 win over Kennington B, a tighter win over a strong St. Theresa’s 6-4, and finally overcame Kingsnorth B to win the group.

Our B team had a tough group – they started very strongly however, taking a 5-2 lead over Hamstreet. Unfortunately, Hamstreet came back to take the lead before a late try earned Challock a 7-7 draw. This was followed up with a super 5-3 win over Kennington A, and a narrow 4-3 loss to Lady J’s A. This meant the B team came third in the group and went through to play all same-placed teams in the next round.

The B team were placed into a group with Beaver Green, Furley Park B and Kingsnorth B. After a 3-3 draw with Kingsnorth, they produced a great 3-1 win over Beaver Green, before a tight 4-4 draw with Furley Park. This meant that they won the group and ended up the day in 11th position overall from 20 teams. Final results – won 2, drew 3, lost (only) 1.

Our A team had 4 games to play in the first-placed-teams’ group. This started with a narrow loss to Lady J’s A team 5-4 (who had earlier narrowly beaten our B team). This loss meant only wins would do for the A team to have a chance of winning overall, and they did this by beating Lady J’s B, Kingsnorth A and, crucially, Tenterden A, who had beaten us a week earlier in a friendly match. Fortunately, Tenterden A beat Lady J’s A team, meaning both Lady J’s and Challock finished with 3 wins and 1 loss each, level on points! The final result came down to try difference, and Challock came out on top, winning the tournament! Final results – won 6, drew 0, lost 1.

The results today were a testament to both the skill level of all the pupils and the depth of sporting ability in Challock; this was shown through the A team, who have won the tournament twice in a row now, and through the excellent performances of the B team, who could have gone through as runners up in the first group.

A hugely enjoyable day, run smoothly at the Towers School, and ending in a water fight.

    Thanks to:

  • Netball result: Challock 5 - 3 Wye Bears

    Mon 08 May 2017 Ms S Todd

    5th May 2017  Challock -v- Wye Bears
Challock played Wye Bears in their first match of their new (2nd round) group.

The team started off well, getting to grips with the game in the 1st quarter with Fred scoring a goal, leading us to a 1-0 lead. Drew played well at centre - the coaching team are especially proud of her as she is really going for that ball and not holding back - well done Drew!

The 2nd quarter was a good match up; although no goals were scored, the team all tried their hardest, with Harry defending brilliantly and Abbie making some good interceptions. The 3rd quarter started off well with Caitlin scoring a further goal for Challock. Callie was working really hard, together with Harry who continued to defend well, getting great interceptions.

The 4th quarter was amazing - straight away Abbie scored a fantastic goal from distance - her shooting practice is definitely helping - well done! Oliver made some great interceptions when defending, he was here, there and everywhere. Callie scored the 4th goal for Challock before Abbie scored once more, which lead Challock to a fantastic 5-3 win.

The player of the match his week was Caitlin -  great movement and direction - well done!
