OPAL

What is OPAL?
OPAL is the Outdoor Play and Learning programme, an award-winning program that helps primary schools provide outstanding and enriching playtime experiences for children. It is a mentor-supported school improvement programme addressing all 18 areas a school must plan for if they want to sustainably improve the quality of play.
By incorporating both natural and man-made resources, the OPAL Programme aims to improve children's well-being, social-emotional development, physical activity, and creativity by making use of the 20% of their school day that is spent playing. The OPAL Primary Programme blends elements of strategic school improvement practice, action planning, self-evaluation, playwork skills and knowledge, and 20 years of action-research.
We are thrilled that, following introducing and embedding OPAL at Challock Primary School since 2023, we have been awarded the highest accreditation - The OPAL Platinum Award!
