Snow Photo Competition!
Thu 01 Mar 2018Snow School? Snow problem!
With all this snow, we bet you have some great photos and we’d love to see them! We are therefore running a photo competition. Photos will be displayed in school and also on the website (with your permission if your child is in the photo).
- One picture per category per pupil please (3 photos in total).
- Pupils should take the photos themselves, unless they are in the photo reading (in the snow or not)!
You can either:
- bring in your favourite photo in each category on Monday
- e-mail to david.lemon@challock.kent.sch.uk (stating also if you're happy for them to go on the website if your child is in the photo)
- Tweet this and include our handle @challockprimary
Please submit photos by end of Wednesday 7th March and then we will judge them! Prizes for the winners.
There are 3 categories:
- Most Scenic (best snow scene/landscape)
- Funniest
- Most Creative/Original involving reading
Stay warm and safe, and have fun!

BOOK WEEK 2018 (26th Feb - 2nd March)
Wed 21 Feb 2018BOOK WEEK & WORLD BOOK DAY
We are having a themed book week in school, the week of Monday 26th February. Our theme is ‘Book Animals’.
We are fortunate enough to have ‘Author Workshops’ for each class with our very own Kay Ghaye on the Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thursday 1st March is World Book Day and we will all be dressing up as animals from books as well as doing ‘paired reading’ throughout the school, older children reading with younger children.
We would like to invite parents to read their favourite children’s book to their child’s class at the end of the day on Monday 26th February, Tuesday 27th February and Wednesday 28th February at 2:45pm, a different parent each day. We will let you know if your name is drawn out.
If you would like to participate in this, please fill in the slip and we will put all the names in a hat to randomly select a parent for each of the days and classes. Please hand the slip into school by Wednesday 21st February.
Each child will also receive a ‘reading card’ for the week, to record how long they read for each day and where they read. A winner from KS1 and KS2 will be chosen on the Friday 2nd March for who has read for the longest length of time and there might also be a prize for the most interesting places they have read too!
We are really looking forward to the week and are sure it will be a success.
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Sercombe and Mrs Pape

Spelling Bee competition Finals
Tue 27 Jun 2017On the 19th June, the finals of the inter-schools Spelling Bee was held. After initial qualifying rounds in each schools' junior year groups, the year threes and fours had their final here at Challock and the fives and sixes went to Lady Joanna Thornhill school in Wye for their year group finals.
Our fantastic representatives in the final were James from year three and Alice from year four. They were both brilliant. The winner for year three was Poppy from Mersham school and our own Alice won the year four trophy!
The second photo shows the children at the year five and six final. Alice and Zach represented us brilliantly. The final winners, in a hard fought contest, were from Chilham School and Lady Joanna respectively.
Well done to everyone who took part in any of the rounds!
